INTERNATIONAL CHICKEN WING DAY!
Today we celebrate one of my all-time favorite food, chicken wings. Today is International Chicken Wing Day and this day is observed annually on July 1st.
In the United States, Buffalo wing has been popular and usually, they are unbreaded that is generally deep-fried then coated or dipped in a sauce made of vinegar-based cayenne pepper hot sauce and melted butter before serving.
Chicken wings can be hot, spicy, plain, sticky or sweet and Americans never get enough. Commonly served at restaurants as a side or a dish and they are eaten about 30 billion a year.
They also come in different flavors like barbeque, honey mustard, sweet and sour and garlic parmesan. Usually, they are served with sticks of celery and blue cheese as a dipping sauce.
Buffalo wing was invented in 1964 by Teresa Bellissimo at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York and they traditionally served hot, along with carrot sticks or celery sticks with blue cheese or ranch dressing.
Primarily chicken wings were used for stock or soup. When her son came at the bar with his friends from college, she taught of serving them a quick snack while they drink at the bar, so decided to deep-fry the chicken wings and serve it with dipping sauce.
Nowadays, as the market for chicken wings became larger, restaurants began to create and use a variety of sauces in addition to buffalo sauce. Some flavor were influenced by Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Caribbean, and Indian cuisines.
In many parts of the United States, chicken wing festivals are held in Buffalo wings being used in competitive eating events such as the Philadelphia’s Wing Bowl and the National Buffalo Wing Festival wherein participants race to eat the hottest chicken wings counting the number of wings they can eat, and whoever eats more in the given time frame, wins.
Due to the popularity of the contest, some restaurants started doing contest serving the hottest sauce and if a customer wins, they get a bragging right and photos are posted on their wall of fame aside from the T-shirt given as a price after devouring the chicken wings.

1997 HONG KONG RETURNED TO CHINA
At midnight on July 1, 1997, Hong Kong reverts back to Chinese rule in a ceremony attended by British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Prince Charles of Wales, Chinese President Jiang Zemin, and U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. A few thousand Hong Kongers protested the turnover, which was otherwise celebratory and peaceful.
In 1839, Britain invaded China to crush opposition to its interference in the country’s economic, social, and political affairs. One of Britain’s first acts of the war was to occupy Hong Kong, a sparsely inhabited island off the coast of southeast China. In 1841, China ceded the island to the British with the signing of the Convention of Chuenpi, and in 1842 the Treaty of Nanking was signed, formally ending the First Opium War.
